Extended warranties are usually very inexpensive and can save you thousands in the future. Some can even cover extra costs that result, such as cost of food that spoils when your fridge dies. It's simple and inexpensive to purchase extended warranties and one of the smartest ways to protect your investment.

Appliances can be large, heavy and expensive. You probably don't have the special tools or expertise needed to fix them in a crisis. If you can spare a few thousand dollars without batting an eyelash for new appliances should they break tomorrow, don't buy a warranty. But if you're like most of us, protect yourself by purchasing inexpensive extended warranties when you buy a new product and save yourself big money in the long run.

Refund for Defective Drawers

JLH58OH 4/8/2022

Like so many of the reviews, we experienced the exact same problem with our new pedestal drawers. After multiple replacements and trips to repair, the store we purchased the units from had no further solution. After contacting GE it was determined that even thought the plastic drawers are stamped with "Max Load 50#", GE does not recommend more than 25#. It is my understanding that they would be changing the documentation. The primary reason we purchased the units was for storage of large detergent bottles, washing supplies, towels, etc. as indicated in the literature and promoted by the store. There appears to be a design flaw in the materials used to make the drawer and after several conversations with GE, it is apparent the design is not currently being modified and this will be an ongoing problem. In the end, we were able to get a full refund from GE for the purchase price.

Believe the terrible reviews

PhilC_ROC 3/19/2022

I wish I'd read these reviews before we bought our new GE dryer and pedestal. After four months, the drawer began coming off track. The left rail is clearly defective and sounds like a manufacturing defect. 4 months = 16 weeks = 4 loads of laundry per week = opening the drawer 64 times before it failed. That's about $4 for each pull. Called GE who says accessories don't have a warranty, but they'll still dispatch a repair person to take a look. Oops, we're overbooked in your area, we'll have to report out to a third party. Oops, we don't have any third parties in your area, we'll have to send it to our special search team. I am very pleased with the dryer, which at $1K I better be, but for the moment I spent an extra ~$250 for a decorative useless box for it to sit on. Here's hoping the GE-located repair person makes it right, but based on these reviews, I suspect there's a sagging issue around the corner.

Pedestal Drawers Make Clicking Sound

bism 2/17/2022

First just one but now both pedestal drawers make clicking sound. Was told by customer service that technicians only service appliances not the pedestal drawers as they are considered an accessory. Drawers do not look like they are sagging so not sure what the isssue is. Very disappointed to read the other reviews and feel like the issue will not be resolved. If GE sells a product whether appliance or accessory they should stand behind what they sell and ensure that any issues with their products are addressed and repaired.

Pedistal Feet

R R H 1/22/2022

Three Months ago this was written: AdrianatGEA (BULLET) 3 months ago "Hello! Thank you for choosing GE Appliances for your home. We are more than happy to provide guidance. The leveling legs on this pedestal have a 1/2" adjustment. With the pedestal being 16" tall, the legs fully extended make the pedestal approximately 16 1/2" tall. We appreciate you checking with us, and we hope this information helps! " When it was installed, the installer did not put on the "leveling legs." I called GE and got a part number that supposedly was these "leveling legs" for the pedistal. When it came, they ere not the correct parts. WHAT IS THE PART NUMBER FOR THE "Leveling Legs?" ONLY The Legs with the rubber tip. And I tried to find the parts list, but can't even when the website says it is available.

Won't open. Tub sags

5dad 1/22/2022

As all others have shared, this is a HUGE irritation of a product! I have several GE appliances, including the Cafe line. These pedestals are flawed beyond belief and really make me not like the GE brand (considering these cost another $250 each, on top of the $1.1K appliances!). There is no excuse for the poor performance-literally out of the box, on these. The plastic tub sags in the middle and drags on its own steel frame. It only gets worse and worse over time, even without storing anything in the drawer! I've taken the tub out and tried to make adjustments but the tub itself is just incredibly faulty. It's not made of the right polymer to hold its shape. This one was warped from the beginning, so it must be a defect in production. Super angry, considering GE has tight controls on manufacturing and molding… hard to believe this was simply "missed". My wife is irritated with it which means I'm not happy. She can't even open the drawer anymore.

Wish I didn't agree with 1 stars

Kaybee76 1/2/2022

We wanted to love these pedestal drawers. I like the height. I love the idea. But as another reviewer stated, the drawer sags in the middle and makes a terrible clicking sound as it scrapes against the bottom bracket. I emptied the drawer and tried to determine if it was fixable, and now it won't open and close at all. Like many others, my washer still vibrates terribly - it shakes the downstairs cabinets and the whole house. I wanted to blame HD installers but now I'm wondering if it's faulty or just poor quality.

Poor Design

MKDC 12/10/2021

Just as others have voice their reviews, I completely agree with all these 1-star reviews. I had exchanged mine for a new one thinking that it was manufacturer defect. How could I not think this when my washer rocks about an inch while switching into spin mode. After installing the replacement and making sure everything was level, it did the same thing as the first one. Called out GE service and the tech basically told me that I'm lucky that I've installed the washer in the basement and not on the second floor because the washer is known to move and the pedistal just amplifies it. This product needs a complete overhaul in design. Stamped sheet metal with a couple of spot welds just doesn't seem to be enough to hold a 250 lbs (empty) machine.

LOW QUALITY

Dave101880 11/27/2021

Purchased a GE front load washer and dryer set and the pedestals that goes with them. The washer and dryer are amazing however the same pedestal goes with both. I do t think the pedestal can support the weight of the washer cause my pedestal even when level sways from side to side like its to light or not structural enough. Leveled it many times just to make sure. Contacted GE and they said they were making a new one cause apparently alot of others must have problems with them as well. I feel like I just wasted like $250 for a pedestal that isn't doing its job and my machine is not be supported to make it run smooth and proper.

Drawer won't open

1096 11/17/2021

We bought washer and dryer pedestal bases for our brand new GE machines. Within 6 months the drawer on the base of the washer began to open with difficulty. Now, 10 months later, you have to use all your might to open or close the drawer. The drawer for the dryer glides with no problems. Now we have to wait 4 weeks for a service rep to come out and try to fix or replace it.

Terrible. More than terrible.

Pedestalsareterrible 9/30/2021

I wanted these pedestals so badly. They created more space for things but also made the washer and dryer look better. I had no problems with the LG I had previously so I didn't research much. When they arrived, these lasted three weeks (maybe) and one began to be finicky when opening and closing. Now it won't close at all. I have called, been transferred to many different places and still no help to get this fixed. Except ordering a new one. I hope someone is smarter than we were and reads the reviews. Do NOT waste your money.

Just terrible

MrAndrew87 9/25/2021

Like many other reviews, initially we enjoyed the pedestal. However, despite following the instructions to not put more than 50 pounds in the pedestal, we found after a month or so the plastic was sagging making the drawer extremely hard to open. I'm afraid that sooner or later it's just going to break. What a hunk of junk. We've owned it less than 6 months.

Cheap. Plastic. Junk.

GeneMCO 9/24/2021

My wife and I purchased a new GE washer & dryer set ("Good Housekeeping Seal approved!) and were excited to find matching, same brand, "bottle height" storage drawer pedestals to set the units on. Well, our excitement turned to dismay as the plastic drawers sag and drag against the pedestal frame due to severe bowing after just a couple months use. While the drawer has an large embossed warning "Do not exceed 50 lbs" I hardly think that one bottle of liquid detergent, one bottle of fabric softener and one bottle of bleach should make these plastic drawers bow and sag as they do. The "clicking" noise when the drawer opens from sagging against the frame member is SO ANNOYING and the plastic now has a permanent memory sag. It's a shame we can't get quality product from this huge name brand!

$250 and broken in less than two months...

MK777 9/20/2021

Purchased and installed less than two months ago, the drawer always felt a little on the wobbly side. It has now dropped some ball-bearings and jammed. Definitely not worth anything like $250. Not even sure I can register it for service as once installed, how am I supposed to find the serial number?

$250 For a Drawer That Doesn't Work

nosch455 9/11/2021

Like so many other commenters here, we shelled out the $250 each for pedestals, and I was underwhelmed from the first day. I have never seen such cheap construction for the money: you are paying for some sheet metal, a molded plastic liner, and what have to be the cheapest drawer slides on the market (I've seen better slides on $50 Box Store cabinets) Less than a year after purchasing and storing nothing more than some rags, the slides have jammed and the drawer won't open. The pedestal is useless for storage - it is as functional as a painted cinder block. To add insult to monetary injury, GE doesn't stand by their products and won't warranty this. That should have been a red flag from the beginning. I thought that, with the high price tag and GE name that we'd be getting a quality product. Surely a metal box with a drawer can't be hard to make, but if they're cutting corners on this, imagine what gets cheaped out on the actual washer and dryer. Unless GE can rectify this, this broken pedestal will be the last GE products we buy.

Poor design for a GE product.

Wheeler321 8/12/2021

We bought our matching washer and dryer in May 2021 and in August 20 21 the pedestal start losing the ball bearings out of the slide under the washer not very much weight just some miscellaneous items to wash your clothes and that was it. I called GE repair and when the technician arrive to had a poor attitude and told us that this isn't covered under any type of warranty even though we did buy an extended warranty from Lowes. I can't believe after 90 days the product is falling apart and try to find parts, as GE wants you to buy another pedestal from them for $250. GE should be ashamed of themselves for manufacturing and selling an inferior product. Lowe's is just as guilty too.

Design Flaw-Disappointed Purchase

Dave 1954 8/3/2021

We purchase top of the line GE front load washer/dryer with matching pedestals. First, we waited many weeks for the product to arrive. My wife loves the height with the pedestals as it makes moving laundry from washer to dryer. However, we put a few bottles of detergent, fabric softener, etc. in drawers. Due to the plastic drawers being too thin and the molded rims on underside of drawers not being thick/strong enough, the drawers sag and the underside of the drawers drag on the metal framework. The drawers open and close but for $270 each you would expect to not have this sort of issue. Obviously, for minimal cost GE could rectify this issue but will do us no good. We already own the pedestals so I suspect we are just out of luck.

Absolutely Useless Junk !

MacDaddyNavy 7/12/2021

We purchased 2 of these at $250.00 each to support our new GE Washer and Dryer front loaders in a brand newly built home. First we learned from installers that they couldnt put washer and dryer on them and then move them back under standard height cupboards in our new laundry room They are a couple of inches to high.! The builder wanted $500 to remove cabinets and move them to accommodate these units. Next they are to wide to fit in the standard drain pan required in townhome laundry rooms..We couldnt find a pan that would fit so we have none ! Next when you push them against the wall you no longer have access to your plug, water on and off and drain unit .You have to climb up on ladder on top to shut off water not easy for 78 yr old women to do. Lastly this week we have finally figured out that the plastic drawer that sits inside for storage which makes a horrible noise opening and closing when empty has no bearings or wheels in the center to support the drawer. The result is the hard plastic drags on the metal frame of the unit which runs below it ..It sounds like running your nails down a chalk board ! Horrible noise. Now add weight to drawer the things you expect to put in it , detergents soaps ect and the drawer doesnt want to open now ..Both units are the same. The installer said its another flaw in this drawer unit. Had we known all of this prior to purchasing we would purchased different units most definitely.

Does not work

NYPedestal 5/28/2021

Bought two pedestals to match washer and dryer. Both have same issue. The drawer trays are made of plastic and do not bear any weight. Put a detergent bottle in the drawer and it will not open / close without hitting the frame. Broken plastic on the floor and drawers that do not function as advertised. Warranty does not apply to accessories and therefore this is absolute junk. Now see other reviews that mention similar issue.

BasilFawlty 4/18/2021

Purchased this for my GE Dryer. First, it's way more complicated than my washer pedestal. Secondly, the holes on my dryer are either not enough (1 instead of 2) or there are no corresponding holes to line up the brackets with.

Faulty design or flawed product

Westchester NY 4/13/2021

I brought two of these, one to go under a washing machine and the other to go under a dryer. According to GE's website, they are supposed to accommodate the laundry products (including larger additive bottles). The moment we put anything inside the drawer, the plastic drawer base hits the frame of the pedestal. If you put even a small laundry detergent bottle the drawer makes a horrible clanking noise as you open it and close it. If you put a single family sized laundry detergent bottle in the drawer it will not open or shut. It makes the pedestals pretty much useless. Technician says he cannot fix it because it's a design flaw.

Love the added storage and height but...

KSS735 3/18/2021

While I love the added height that the drawers add to the washer/dryer GE really missed the mark on these drawers. They are to tall, I am a woman 5'6" the soap dispenser is almost to high for me to fill it. But the biggest complaint is my cabinets where hung at standard height 54" from the floor, I had to pay $450 dollars for someone to come raise my cabinets to 58" so I could slide the washer/dryer under them. So very disappointed in the design, it never occurred to me that this would be the case.

Drawers are Poor quality

mic18 2/27/2021

I love my GE Ultra washer and dryer but the GE pedestial GFP1528SNWW look great but Pedestal drawers function poorly, Just with a single detergent bottle and the bottom scrubs and leaves plastic residue under washer and dryer. There is no support for the bottom of the drawers. I looked back at older versions and they have a cross bar to keep the floor bottom from dragging....Any suggestions?
